TMAP8.

TMAP8 (Tritium Migration Analysis Program, version 8) is a MOOSE-based open-source application from Idaho National Laboratory for hydrogen-isotope transport in materials and systems: diffusion with trapping and release, surface and interface conditions, and coupled heat transfer, solved as finite-element problems on the MOOSE framework.

Engineering questions it helps answer
  • How much tritium is retained in a plasma-facing component, and how much permeates to the coolant, under cyclic heat and particle loads?
  • How do trapping energies, trap densities and interface solubility jumps change inventory and permeation in a layered metal structure?
  • How does coupled heat conduction change diffusivity and release across a pulsed operating schedule?
Physics scope
  • Hydrogen-isotope diffusion with Arrhenius diffusivity and solubility
  • Trapping and thermal release (detrapping) in one or more trap populations
  • Chemical-potential equilibrium at material interfaces (solubility-ratio jumps)
  • Coupled heat conduction with temperature-dependent properties
  • Transient simulation of pulsed operating schedules

Limitations

A MOOSE-based application that must be built with MOOSE; it has no tagged GitHub releases, so pinning a version means recording a commit. Model fidelity depends on material data (diffusivities, solubilities, trap parameters) that the user must supply, and published demonstrations reproduce papers rather than validating against experiment.

Fusion relevance

Fusion-specific by design: tritium inventory, retention and permeation in fusion materials are its core use, and its published examples include an ITER-like divertor monoblock under pulsed operation. It inherits MOOSE's parallel finite-element machinery and couples to other MOOSE applications.
